Queen's Wharf - ADNZ Award-Creative Design: Finalist 2011 Auckland Regional

Queens wharf design competition entry by ICR Consulting
A series of fluid Maori curves creating interlinking walkways and terraced gardens inspired by the ornamented Taurapa (Waka stern post) and Ta moko. An ever-changing stimulating landscape that provides life to the existing harsh and weathered wharf.

The silver fern, an iconic national symbol that is recognised internationally. A symbol of strength, patronage and pride. Continuing the fluidity from the landscape into the arching fern was imperative as it needed to connect with the environment while also providing weather protection for the visitors beneath. A panoramic sculpture of iron and innovative translucent membranes.

A meeting house to welcome, stimulate and reinvigorate after a long journey. A palette of inspiration that brings warmth to an exhausted Shed 10 and symbolises the diversity of nationalities and cultures that pass through the facility.
