Grotto Street - ADNZ Award-Kitchen: Finalist 2006 Auckland Regional

Built in 1947, this home was purchased from the original owner in 2004. After extensive renovation, the home marries old world charm with the best of modern living: an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen, which flows through to an outdoor entertaining area.

A set of bi-folding doors open the one end of the house, with the new kitchen moved to this northern elevation. Placing the kitchen and living areas in this area makes much better use of the sunny space than the original bedroom and toilet did.

The owners' taste, personalities and growing art collection were also carefully factored into the interior design.
