This Orewa office was designed using the sustainable design principles of the New Zealand Green Building Council. Sitting on a busy intersection, the narrow rectangular site is covered in protected Pohutukawa trees.
Our design team worked around these significant restrictions, and were able to incorporate other eco-friendly features, like thermal mass heat stores, natural ventilation, shading devices, thermal insulation, double glazing and visitor bicycle storage. We minimized the use of PVC materials, used sustainable timbers and fitted the building with energy saving and generating devices. These included zoned lighting, solar hot water heating, storm water harvesting for flushing the toilets, waste management and recycling systems.
